Students Hideaway

Redemption Student Ministry (RSM) exists because we are passionate about helping parents with making authentic disciples of Jesus who live for the glory of God and the good of our world, their school, their neighborhoods, and their homes. We want to come alongside your student and model a gospel-centered life in a safe and healthy environment.

One of the ways we do this is Hideaway Weekend (actually just a night). This is where our students get together and spend time with their small groups and leaders for an evening at someone’s home. Some groups will go camping, some will go play paintball, paint, do a craft, get their nails done, etc… It’s a chance for their adult group leaders to jump-start their relationship with the students and for the small groups to begin to come together. This year Hideaway will begin at 6:00 PM Saturday, September 21 and end Sunday, September 22 at 10:00 AM at church.

You might ask, “What can I do?” One thing we ask all parents and Redemption members to do is to pray. We pray this weekend is a time to build and deepen relationships that will become a foundation of true fellowship. This weekend takes about 2 months worth of awkward “get to know each other” small group times and wraps it into one night. We ask you to pray that our God will continue to open our students’ eyes to His goodness, for relationships to develop, and for our students to find people they can run within this life race.

Second, we need Host Homes!!!  Having a place to stay is a vital part of HideawayWeekend. Host Homes have the opportunity to show hospitality to a small group (2 adult leaders and 5-15 students) of the same age.  Some expectations as a host home….

  1. Just a place to crash. Basically, a place to gather and sleep at some point. Each student will bring a sleeping bag/blanket, so just a room where they can throw their sleeping bags somewhere and sleep. Floors are perfectly fine!
  2. Provide a list of “House Rules”. Our students and leaders desire to be a blessing to our Host Home families, so feel free to keep them away from Grandma’s table or anything you need them to be aware of (No drinks and food in the living room, etc.. )
  3. Saturday night meals will be provided by the Host Home. That comes in many different forms from hotdogs on the grill to fancy sit down dinners. It’s whatever the Host Home feels comfortable providing. Each student will bring $5 for food, so feel free to order pizza or whatever is easiest for you. The students will bring snacks, but I’m sure they will eat anything you place in front of them. 🙂  We will provide donuts at the church for breakfast Sunday morning.

We will stay up late, for sure, but leaders will encourage everyone to go to bed at a reasonable time (likely very late), so they will be fully prepared for Sunday worship with the rest of the Body.

Thank you again for your partnership in the gospel, for your prayers, and for hosting these students for a night. If you have any questions, please feel free to text Kami at 405-226-0692 or email students@redemptionokc.com.
