30 DAYS OF PRAYER | DAY 27 – Praying for Humility

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
All of the Scriptures point to one thing, the goodness of God. His greatness, majesty, and worthiness of praise. Not creation. Not mankind. God. And all the Scriptures teach us to do is trust and obey Him and let God be God.

Humbling ourselves before the LORD requires admission of our shortcomings, failures, and inability and a recognition of His steadfastness, faithfulness, and ability. Humility means relinquishing control to the One who actually has it and is making all things new (Rev. 21:5). Humility removes from us the weight of trying to be God and enables us to freely worship the One who is God and worthy of such praise.

Since, then, we have this God who is fitting (Heb. 2:10), and through the cross truly meets our need (Heb. 7:25-26), we are able to “do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above selves, not looking to own interests but each to the interests of others” (Phil. 2:3-4). Because Christ is our all (Col. 3:11), we don’t have to compete against our brothers or strive for the affection of others. In Christ, we are able to lay aside self and freely love and serve our neighbors (Luke 10:25-37).

Join me in praying for humility towards the supremacy of God in all things at Redemption Church. Pray we would reveal the glory of God, His utmost worth in the way we live our lives in humility toward “one another” (1 Cor. 10:31, Col. 3:23, John 13:34-35). And pray that Redemption Church would always be humble enough to never forget its first love (Rev. 2:4-5), Emmanuel, the God who is with us!
